The Wraparound Garden Oasis
A couple in Sutton wanted to transform their dark, cramped kitchen and separate dining room into a large, light-filled space suitable for hosting family gatherings. The existing layout featured a small kitchen at the rear of the house, with a narrow side passage that was completely wasted space. The dining room at the front was rarely used, and there was no connection between the interior and the garden.
Overview
The solution was a wraparound extension – combining a side return extension to utilise the wasted passage and a rear extension to create a large, open-plan kitchen-diner. The clients also wanted the new interior to flow seamlessly into the garden for summer entertaining.

Our Solution
Design:
We designed a wraparound extension that completely transformed the ground floor. The side return was infilled to create a wide, open space, and the rear extension extended out into the garden. The result is a large, L-shaped room that accommodates a bespoke kitchen with central island, a dining area, and a comfortable seating zone.
Glazing:
Full-width sliding doors run almost the entire width of the rear elevation, opening completely to the garden. A large skylight above the dining area brings additional natural light deep into the space. The doors have slim aluminium frames to maximise the glass area and views.
Underfloor Heating:
We installed wet underfloor heating throughout the new extension, fed from the existing boiler. This provides comfortable, even warmth without radiators, keeping the clean, minimalist aesthetic.
Kitchen:
The bespoke kitchen features handleless white cabinets, marble-effect quartz worktops, and a large central island with breakfast bar. Integrated appliances and ample storage create a highly functional space.
Garden:
We worked with the clients’ landscaper to ensure a seamless transition between the new sliding doors and the new patio, with levels carefully planned to avoid steps.
